Welcome to my Substack newsletter. It’s meant to be a little dose of delight- some links to inspire you as the weekend gets under way. It’s an accumulation of favorite things I’ve bookmarked or have seen in person (relating to home design, style, art, culture, travel and articles) …all of which have recently caught my eye.
…like the prettiest coupe glass I ever did see.
Downloadable vintage art…
For my California friends, some lovely coastal getaways…
In August I spent a couple weeks in Kennebunk and Spruce Head, Maine. On a drive to Camden, my friend Bob and I stumbled upon some topographical maps made by local resident and shop owner, Keenan Boscoe. I loved the look of his work and the nice part is he’ll custom make a map for anyone’s home by the sea. They’re visually very cool- and a great idea if you need a specific size for your wall. I’ll be ordering one for my Savannah home sometime in the next year- (he quoted me $40/hour and estimated the job would take 6-9 hours) If you have some interest, send him a note…
A classic brown loafer for women, by Tory Burch.
Casual leather sneaker for men, by Oliver Cabell.
Last week I spent five days in Belfast, Ireland and was floored by how amazing and cool the city was. Why doesn’t anyone in the US ever talk about it? It’s full of art, culture, history, insanely good pub and restaurants- not to mention it’s very affordable, walkable and friendly working class city. The buses are so easy to take (just tap to pay by phone) and they bring you anywhere in the city. Traveling back
in a time with collect calls, paper maps and traveler’s checks, I’m always amazed how much quicker and easier travel gets every year. And Belfast proved it’s better than ever, I look forward to going back. Next time will include a ride out to Giant’s Causeway to see more of the spectacular coastline…
Highlights included: OX Cave for wine and nibbles; strolling around Cathedral Quarter; Ulster Museum; Street Art Walking Tour; St George’s Market; Kelly’s Cellars Pub; Titanic Museum; Botanic Gardens; Bullitt Hotel and their lovely rooftop bar; Afternoon tea (or a cocktail) at the stunning The Merchant Hotel.
Although I’ve been thinking about ‘A birdy told me’ for some time, I didn’t want to send out the first post until my friend (and favorite illustrator) Rob Wilson, created my logo. His talent knows no bounds and when I asked him if he would draw my ‘birdy’
he didn’t hesitate and for that, I am so grateful.
Take a look at his instagram… he’s a pure joy to follow. Thank you Rob!
I love a good travel hack and often they’re not all that enlightening but this list by flight attendants has a few original ideas I hadn’t thought of. It was worth a bookmark.
Vintage Italian serving pitchers via Patch NYC…pretty dreamy.
I love stripes but yet I do not have enough of them in my home. Maybe these sheets by Piglet are a way to add them in.
I bought these naked ramblers for my friend Cliff’s house plants. It’s a no fail gift in my opinion.
A divorce attorney’s thoughts on love and marriage. So good.
That is all for post #1. Thank you for spending a little of your time here today.
If you’re in search of something specific, please message me. I love a good challenge. Happy weekend…
